The son of a 25-year-old, Ser Piero and Caterina, a peasant girl. Leonardo was born on April 15, 1452, in Vinci, Italy,b outside Florence. His father took custody of the Leonardo shortly after his birth, while his mother married someone else. His father and mother having different lives gave Leonardo 17 half sisters and brothers.
Daily Life
Leonardo unlike other people in Italy was a vegetarian and had to meat in his house. he also loved animals he bought them at the market just to set them free. Between 1490 and 1495 he developed a habit of recording his studies in illustrated notebooks. His work covered four main themes: painting, architecture, the elements of mechanics, and human anatomy.
Painting
He was also exposed to his father's painting tradition, and when he was about 15 his father made him his apprentice and let him own his workshop of Andrea del Verrochio in Florence.
Teaching
Before he died he was suffering from a paralysis of the right hand, but Leonardo was still able to draw and teach.
Special Talents Leonardo's left-handedness was considered the devil's work. Lefties were often forced to use their right hand. It has been suggested that this "difference" was an element of his genius, since his difference allowed him to see beyond the ordinary. He even wrote backwards to keep messages secret, but his writings are easily seen with a mirror.
Died
Leonardo died on May 2, 1519 in Cloux, France. Legend has it that King Francis was at his side when he died.
